Dark roast beans have a bold and robust flavor, and have less acidity than medium roasts which is ideal for cold brew. They are also less bitter and have a more smooth and chocolatey flavor than lighter roasts. Both medium and dark roast beans are suitable for cold brew and it depends on personal taste and preference which one to use.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of medium roast coffee beans, freshly ground (coarse grind)
- 4 cups of cold water
- A quart-sized wide mouth mason jar
Instructions:
- In a large bowl or container, grind your medium roast coffee beans.
- In the quart-sized wide mouth mason jar, combine the ground coffee and cold water. Stir the mixture well to ensure that all the coffee grounds are fully saturated.
- Cover the mason jar and place it in the refrigerator. Let the mixture steep for at least 12 hours, or overnight.
- After steeping, remove the mason jar from the refrigerator and place a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth over a separate container and pour the mixture through it, making sure to strain it well to remove all of the coffee grounds.
- Serve the cold brew coffee over ice, or store it in the refrigerator for up to a week. You can dilute the coffee with water or milk to taste.
